Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Design

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne Key features two buttons one of which opens the trunk, and the second that is used to start the vehicle. The key also has a button to turn on the parking brake. The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather and takes over two days to craft each one. Bentley claims it takes about 500 man hours to design and put together the typical Mulsanne. The main reason for this lengthy effort is a deliberate decision to adopt the latest technology. Instead of employing a machine for spacers to the perfectly matched cross-stitched leather seats workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. And rather than letting the car's built-in sensors guide it into perpendicular and parallel parking spaces drivers must perform the task by hand.

Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization capabilities in the release of a special Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays tribute to William Osler, the founder of Bentley. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to founder William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited-edition cars include a special key that displays a portion of the 1930 8 Liter's crankshaft.
