There are many reasons why lever door handles slide. The most common reason is that the fixings have been too tightened, and are putting pressure on the lever bearing which causes it to become a bind on the door face. It could also be that the levers are not being operated in a straight line and this is causing the latch mechanism preventing it from fully springing back into operation.

Another common reason is that the sprung lever isn't operating correctly and this is usually due to the spring not being in the correct position within the backplate. To determine whether the handle has returned to its horizontal position, simply turn it.

If your door handles are loose it is crucial to find the problem quickly, as it could cause excessive wear on the screws and eventually to the handle falling off the base plate. You should also tighten loose screws frequently to stop them from becoming looser.

Lever/Snib
