The X8 Hybrid appears to be an ordinary robotic cleaner from the top. It is a circular design with sweeping wheels, and an elevated sensor. On the opposite side, you'll see a motorised floorbrush as well as one side brush that pushes dust away from the edges and into the main path of its'mouth.' It's a bit smaller than the main brushes of the iRobot Roomba S9, which I found makes it easier to get under chairs and sofas.

Its mapping system lets you create no-mop zones and specific cleaning zones. However, it has a tendency to hit things (including its own charging dock) and isn't always great at climbing over carpets. It was effective in picking up pet hair from the floor. In our tests it was able to pick up 89.5 percent of kitty litter.

Although it's controlled through the app, the X8 Hybrid also comes with physical buttons on its base, which allow you to choose a cleaning mode, and turn the robot on/off. You can also use them to set no-go zones and view real-time maps. It's also a bit chatty, and will let you know what it's planning to do next (start cleaning) or alert you if something isn't working.

This budget-friendly option from a popular upstart brand is the most affordable robot we've tested to date and offers an exceptional value for the price. Its basic navigation system uses a super-basic random pathing algorithm and lacks room mapping capabilities, making it less time efficient than other models on this list. However it's still able navigate under furniture and into corners, and its mopping mode worked very well during our tests it picked up pet hair and other debris effortlessly.

5. Shark iQ

Shark's iQ may not be as sturdy as the Roomba S9, but it does better overall at getting rid of pet hair from all surfaces. It clears bare floors more thoroughly and does a fair job on low-pile carpet and also makes use of smart-pathing navigational technology for better maneuverability. It also allows you to send it to a specific area, and its advanced suite of automation features includes no-go zones and scheduling. It lets you stop and resume cleaning, making it perfect for homes with pets.
