Private ADHD Titration

There is a current national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems as well as an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service is able to provide private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a complete medical history and an evaluation using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

Following your assessment you will be advised that medication may be beneficial in your case. This will happen at your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person, via video link or by phone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process could take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child's medication until the proper balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to have to titrate as high as three different medicines before you can find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to be involved in this titration adhd process and keep a close watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to make appointment with the psychiatrist as necessary. The appointment will usually be conducted through a zoom video call. However, in certain circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss treatment options and decide on an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication titration. This will include a review of your medication dosage and an examination of any adverse effects you may be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any cost of medication.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, as well as any issues with relationships you may be having or other mental health issues you may be suffering from. ADHD can be a genetic condition, so it's important to assess your family history to determine if you're at a higher chance of developing this disorder.

This can be done in the wake of your diagnosis if you want to start treatment immediately or within two weeks if you prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives available to you.

We recommend that if you are unsure about your preferences, you talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment. Some providers have different policies on whether they require an GP letter. We also suggest to confirm that your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement', which means that once discharged from the clinic you will be sent back to them to get the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who want a private adhd titration diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a key part of their journey. It isn't easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long and GPs might be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.
