After a string of social media posts hints at it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally revealed its NFT (non fungible token) Project. The project is dubbed Space Key and developed in collaboration with an unknown artist, it is inspired by a piece advanced carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini smuggled to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. When it returned to earth the carbon fiber was then sculpted into this unique art. The physical component is inscribed with an NFT serial number, which is tied to the digital artwork using QR codes on the back.

Called the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock a unique digital artwork created by an artist yet to be identified. The project was developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the 'collector's piece' is limited to five units and will be auctioned off soon.

The core of each Space Key is a block made of the most advanced carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth, the block was inscribed with a QR codes that link to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of the five images was taken by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner employed an inflatable camera fitted with a lens to capture the individual images, which were then assembled into the final photograph. The result is an amazing out of the world image that reveals the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car rising from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and time of the event hasn't been confirmed yet.

The auction

The auctions, which will take place between February 1 through February 4, will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be purchased by making an online registration. Each NFT will be sold individually and the winner will receive an original digital artwork created by world-renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments that the Space Key experienced during its space voyage.
