You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following few steps. Choose a clean, dry surface to work on. Make a list of all the tools you'll need. Then, locate the battery hatch, and then open it with a flathead, a coin, or another similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Wear rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

Place the new battery into the socket after the previous one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is placed in all the clips. Then, slide the cover back downwards and towards the key-ring loop until it is loose and slips off. Remove the cover to reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. It can be used to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side door when the battery of your key fob is dead or gone.

Once the hatch is open then slide the battery into its socket and ensure it is in the correct position with the positive (+) side facing up. Once the clips have been locked into place replace the battery cover and reassemble your fob.

Pressing the unlock button once will turn off the alarm and unlock the driver's door. Pressing it again will unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. The unlock button can also be used to open the windows on a hot day or to let in fresh air before climbing behind the wheel. Note: Older Volvos have a different battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, which means you'll need to be aware of the location of your replacement.

Your key fob comes with a transponder that's been programmed specifically for your Volvo. When you insert it into the ignition barrel an antenna reads the code and compares it with the one stored in your vehicle's start inhibitor module. If the codes don't match the car won't start. This is an important security measure to stop your Volvo from starting if the wrong key is used.

You'll need to bring the key fob volvo you lost to a dealer in order to have it replaced. Your vehicle will also be reprogrammed. This process can take up to 10 days and cost you a considerable amount of money. Luckily, there's an alternative to cut out some of the costs by doing the programming at home.
