Having the right tools at hand is critical when in the field. This kit was designed to meet that need and includes all the essential hand tools needed to repair things in the field. The tools are made of steel and are minimal plastic so they can be used for a long time. The kit includes an elasticized canvas coalcracker tool pouch with awl, reamer, twisted cutting shears, gimlet (5MM) sinue spool made of wood, a bottle of coalcracker oil and illustrated instructions.

Repair Patches

If you've got holes or two in your gear, you might want to consider adding some adhesive patches to your rep kit. These heavy-duty patches have a high-performance glue applied on a tough polyurethane backing that allows a tear to heal. These patches are available in clear or colored versions and are durable against punctures, as well as moisture, sunlight, saltwater and temperature extremes.

If your kit doesn't include any of the items above you might want to consider adding a waterproof Aquaseal wader sealant. The water-tight adhesive bonds to fabrics and metals for an indestructible fix. It's ideal for fixing drysuits, and can be applied on the job. Allow the sealant to dry for up to 12 hours prior to using your repaired gear.

The essential field fabric avon starter kit for packs, tents and rainwear made of silicone-impregnated polyester. Includes one Clean Tape repair patch and a sil-nylon swatch. Also included is a 1/4-ounce Gore-Tex Repair Adhesive, Sealant and Sealant tube and brush. Apply patch to a clean flat surface. Allow at least 1/2 inch overlap. Remove the release paper from the patch surface and rub adhesive using moderate pressure (adhesive side up).

Surface preparation is essential to ensure successful repairs. Oils on shoes or boots sunblocks, or solvents such as acetone may affect adhesion. For the best results, make use of Seam Grip alone or with Cotol-240 Cure Accelerator to speed up curing time to 2 hours.

Adhesive patches

If you're out on the trail but aren't able to do the full repair of your vulcaniser this adhesive patch can get you back on the saddle with no hassle. Simply roughen the tube using the included scraper, then apply one of the self-adhesive patches to apply the patch.

Thoroughly clean the punctured area, then apply the tube-scuffer, or sandpaper to roughen the surface which assists in making glue stick. Apply a thin layer of glue over the patch. Cover an area that is at a minimum big as the patch. Give it a few minutes to allow the glue to become tacky before pressing the patch into place and firmly securing it in the place.
