Best Self-Empting Robot Vacuums and Mops

The Eufy 11S robot vacuum is among the cheapest self-emptying robot vacuum and mop vacuums on the market. It efficiently sucked up dry oats from hard floors and low-pile carpeting in our tests. Its dust bin is open and empty easily, making it more convenient to use than other models in its price.

It charges at its base, and then resumes cleaning when it's done. Its obstacle-avoidance tech gets tangled in socks and cords and it is unable to reach the thresholds of low.

1. iRobot Roomba 11S

The 11S is one of the cheaper self-emptying robots available and a lot of people seem to like it. It is great at scooting underneath furniture and is a good option for people with hard floors or daily cleaning. Its suction may be a little weaker than our top picks, but it gets the job completed. It also has a huge dirt bin and a battery which lasts for over an hour. The app allows you to schedule daily cleanings or pick a specific room. You can also create a map of your home to allow the device to stay clear of areas you don't want it visit.

The app is easy to use and has a simple layout. It's not a feature-rich app, but it is easy to use and lets you check the status of your robot. It also has a tutorial which will walk you through the basics.

Its cleaning patterns don't always look logical - sometimes it goes in straight lines, other times, it is able to find the edges of a room, however, Bounce Navigation ensures your entire floor gets cleaned. It's not the most adept at climbing over obstacles, however - it struggled to get underneath our piano pedals and pet food bowls, and ended up getting tangled up in our 2.25-inch shag rug multiple times.

While it's a good option for light cleaning, we think there are better robot vacuums than the 11S. The iRobot Roomba is simpler to maintain, has lower recurring costs and charges faster. It has a larger bin, performs better on any surface type and can scale obstacles that are low in elevation (like electrical cables) more easily.

The eufy RoboVac 11S makes an excellent choice for everyday vacuuming. It shares a similar design to our top choice and is great at picking up small particles and fine dust from hard flooring. It also does a great job on medium and low-pile carpet. Similar to the Roomba from iRobot Roomba, it has a huge dirt compartment, and it uses BoostIQ to automatically adjust suction power. It also comes with an easy-to-use remote control to use and you can schedule daily cleanings using the app. The battery can last for around an hour, and the dustbin can be empty without taking it from the dock.

2. Roborock S7 maxV Ultra

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra robot vacuum and mop is a fantastic robot that comes with a an impressive array of automated features. It is available in three models that include the basic S7, the S7 MaxV Plus and the S7 MaxV Ultra. The latter model is the only one with an Empty Wash Fill Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). These docks allow the robot to return to its home base and empty the debris into a dust bag or reservoir, empty the dirty water tank, and wash its mopping pads.

Sensors on the S7 work together to clear obstacles and clean them. It can identify the types of floors, save maps of rooms and zones and even detect levels of dirt. It's also capable of scheduling and executing spot cleaning sessions. It was able to perform well in our standard tests, but it didn't quite match the iRobot Roomba j7+ in our carpet deep clean test.

You can program the S7 by using the companion app to run a cleaning cycle in accordance with your schedule. You can choose a time day, week, or even a day and select from several cleaning modes, like automatic, eco and deep clean. You can also select whether the robot will stop if it runs out of energy or encounters an obstacle.

If you don't have an Android device, you can still use the S7 by connecting a remote control to the charging dock. The controls can be confusing initially, but they work well once you get used to them. The power button functions as a general 'Clean' button and the "Spot Clean" button directs the robot to clean small areas around itself. The "Spot Clean" button also triggers the child lock.

In addition to the new mapping capabilities, Roborock improved its mobile app by adding live view that lets you see what the S7 is doing at home. You can enable this feature by pressing a particular sequence of buttons on the S7 and then creating an unlock pattern in the app to use any time you wish to see what the robot is doing.

3. Shark IQ SX

Shark's robot vacuums aren't as well-known as those from iRobot or Roborock. However, our tests on the ground have proven that this model is one of the most effective self-emptying vacuums available. It's simple to set up and has an enormous bin that can be easily emptied (albeit loudly) into a trashcan once full. It can also be programmed to sweep the entire house on a schedule.

The IQ XL can connect to your home WiFi and lets you monitor it via the Shark app and check its battery status as it cleans. The app allows you to set up a cleaning routine and receive push notifications about its condition in cleaning, pause it and then restart cleaning, or set it to only one area. It can also be controlled with voice commands through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app can tell you the power mode it's currently in--Eco, Normal, or Max--but we didn't find that any of the modes had a significant impact to the cleaning performance.

Once it finishes a cleaning cycle when it's finished, the IQ XL automatically empty the dustbin into its base, which then self-empties. The bin can store up to 60 days of debris, meaning you don't need to empty it more than once, unless your pets have hair that is long. If you do need to empty it, simply remove the side container and place it on top of the trash can, and then press the button.

The Shark IQ XL is a excellent vacuum cleaner. It does a great job of cleaning bare floors and it can maneuver itself well. However the Shark IQ XL feels a little less solidly built than the Roomba 694. It's good in cleaning carpeted floors however, it isn't as efficient as the iRobot Roomba i7 when it comes to the performance of bare floors. The i7 also feels more sturdy, is more durable and requires less maintenance. It incurs lower recurring cost and charges more quickly and has comparable battery performance. It also comes with more advanced automation features, such as no-go areas and the ability choose specific rooms to be cleaned.

iRobot j7+

This robot vacuum and mop self empty vacuum and mop combination is a rare machine that can do both tasks well. IRobot's Combo j7+ offers all the advantages of its j7 counterpart, including LiDAR mapping and self-emptying, but with additional features for mopping and vacuuming.

The new acoustic sensors aid the j7+ recognize floor types, so it can decide between mopping and vacuuming when it first enters a room. This information can also be utilized to help prioritize cleaning rooms that have carpets and rug versus those with hard flooring.

As with most robotic vacuums the j7+ is relatively quiet while it's running. It's even less noisy when it's mopping. The maximum reading on our decibel meter was 64db which is similar to the sound of normal office chatter.

It's simple to set the schedule for cleaning and change the way that the j7+ operates when its dust container is full. The j7+ can be controlled using voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) to make it hands-free. Additionally, the app lets you create and explore maps of your home.

In our tests, the J7+ was a solid performer on both hard and carpeted floors, cleaning most of the dirt we threw at it. It isn't the Best Self-emptying vacuum at dealing with pet hair and large debris such as sand, however it can remove these items with a little extra effort. It has excellent navigational skills and two cliff sensors to prevent it from falling down stairs or becoming caught on furniture legs.

The J7+ has some minor flaws, for instance, it can get caught on cords or rugs and doesn't always switch off the mopping function once it is done vacuuming. This is a fantastic model that ticks all the boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also has one of the best self-emptying systems we've seen. It spits out its 14oz / 0.4-liter dust container into the base station where it automatically emptys itself for you to. This helps to reduce the amount of trash you need to dispose of and you'll only need to change the reusable dust bag that is on the dock every 60 days or so, based on how often you use the j7+.
