During our testing it did not get stuck on power cords, long curtains, and even dog toys. It's not perfect and sometimes it is stuck on things like tangled cables or odd toys or books.

You can control the S7 Max Ultra via its smartphone application, and this is where you'll find all the sophisticated features that set it apart from other robotic vacuums and mop machines. They include specific room-specific cleaning and mopping settings, a schedule planner mopping and vacuuming power strength selections, and integrations with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for smart home integration. Its extensive feature set makes the S7 Max Ultra can do almost anything a standard robot vacuum and mop with self emptying vacuum can do, but at a a fraction of the cost.

The S7 Max Ultra vacuuming is impressive. It did a great job of removing pet fur, dirt, and other debris, both on hard and carpet floors. The automatic dustbin emptying feature was flawless during our tests. This was very reassuring. It also boasts a 5100 Pa HyperForce suction rating, which is substantially superior to the 2,500Pa suction power of the S6 MaxV and S7.

The S7 Max Ultra's mopping capability was good too, although not the best self-emptying robot vacuum we've seen. It employed a microfiber mop which can absorb liquids and use sonic vibrating technology to scrub floors with up to 3,000 revolutions per minutes. This was a bit faster than the X1 Omni circular pads which spin at 180 rotations per minute. The S7 Max Ultra's ReactiveAI 2.0 obstacle recognition system was excellent. During our testing it didn't snag on any objects and it avoided power cords, long curtains and other obstacles of the time.

2. Narwal Freo

Vaccuming and mopping your floors is one of those chores that people hate but is necessary for maintaining a clean home. It's messy, and often smelly task that can be difficult to complete, as it involves dustbins, dirty water, and the need to ensure that hair or debris doesn't clog the brushes or traps. Robots that mop and vacuum are becoming extremely popular. Many of these devices require you to empty the dustbin and wash and rinsing mop pads manually. This can be a hassle particularly if you have to do this repeatedly in between cleaning sessions. We're pleased to learn that certain manufacturers are introducing self emptying robots to make this process much simpler.

The Narwal Freo, the newest addition to the robotic cleaners is equipped with a variety of enhancements in software, sensors and hardware designed to keep it on top of its game. This includes the patent-pending DirtSense technology and Smart-Swing feature, which both help to detect the area being cleaned and automatically alters the cleaning mode based on what type of flooring it is. The Freo also monitors dirt and automatically cleans mops when they're full. This increases the effectiveness of subsequent cleaning sessions since it does not return to soiled areas.

The Freo is also an improvement over its predecessor in that it is operated directly from the touchscreen LCD at its base station. This is in addition to the app for smartphones. This is the first time for robot vacuum and mop combo and is definitely a welcome alternative if you'd prefer to avoid the hassle of using the app. You can even optimize the route during a session using the controls on the LCD screen. You can also ensure that the robot is doing exactly what you would like it to accomplish.

The Narwal Freo also does a good job of keeping its noise lower when it's working with suction, averaging just 63dB while in suction mode. The Freo's maintenance isn't completely hands-free, however. You'll need to clean the primary brush roll and the side brushes regularly.

3. Ecovacs Deebot t9+

The Ecovacs Deebot T9+ (available at The Good Guys for $1279) is among the most self-emptying robot vacuums and mop combinations on the market. It is capable of mapping your home, cleaning and mopping, while also detecting and staying clear of obstacles. It can even release an air freshener, which is a pretty neat touch.

The app creates a digital map of your home which can be used to clean. It's simple to install. The app allows you to select specific rooms or areas to be cleaned. You can also choose the time of day you'd like it to start cleaning, so that your floors are cleaned while you're away or asleep.

In our tests, the T9+ was awe-inspiring in its ability to navigate obstacles. However, it does have an inclination to take slightly manic routes around the house, which usually resulted in it ending returning to the exact spot it started cleaning just minutes earlier. It wasn't a lot of times but enough to be noticed.

The T9+ comes with a range of accessories, including the robot cleaner, docking station, and an automatic-emptying station. The mopping module and a replacement dust bin are available separately.

Its enhanced navigation systems, mapping and obstacle detection are designed to ensure a spotless cleaning of your home with no interruptions. The updated 3D obstacle detection and avoidance technology detects objects in high-precision to avoid collisions, entanglements or disruptions.

The Deebot T9+ is capable of sweeping, vacuuming and mopping simultaneously leaving your floor looking as good as new. The disposable mopping pads are simple to put on, and the microfiber fabric effectively traps dust, blocks away stains and avoids leaving the residue. The large capacity 2.5L auto-empty station can hold up to 30 days of debris without leaking, making it easy to keep your home clean with minimal effort. The T9+ has an upgraded 3000Pa motor which delivers powerful suction for the most thorough cleaning.

4. iRobot Combo j7+

The iRobot Combo j7+ is a great robot to clean floors. It's a mop and a vacuum, all in one, and it also has obstacle avoidance and home navigation. It can help you map your home and clean areas without damaging furniture or walls. It's also easy to use the app to designate zones for areas that should be cleaned, or areas that you'd like to keep clear of as well as establish specific no-mop and no-sweep boundaries.

IRobot's iAdapt technology 2.0 is an integral element that makes Combo j7+ smart. This uses the front camera, which is mounted on top of most of its robots to identify dangers, such as pet waste or power cords and to avoid them. Additionally iAdapt 2.0 enables the Combo j7+ to identify dirt levels and target these areas more than other.

When the Combo j7+ detects that it's on a floor that requires mopping and a small robot arm with a mop pad lifts up from underneath the vacuum. Then, it mops the floor until the mopping pad is dry, which takes about 90 seconds.

The Combo J7+ can sense carpeting, too. This is great for homes that have a mix of hard flooring and rugs. It won't attempt to push the rug through and instead, it will turn away if it senses it is not able to traverse the area without harming the carpet or itself.

I was able to control the Combo j7+ from the mobile app, which is very intuitive and well designed. It works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so you can start cleaning with a voice. The only issue I encountered was that the Combo j7+'s smaller water tank means that you need to replenish it frequently or limit the cleaning to smaller areas and use eco-mode more frequently.

The Combo J7+ has an extremely small dust bin that you must empty manually. The Combo j7+ mop pads were also less effective than other brands. This is a pity as this robot is otherwise excellent.
