Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your assessment You will be advised if medication would be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which can be scheduled in person, via video link or by phone). Your physician will go over the various options for adhd medication Optimization medications available. If you decide to begin medication, we will help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process could take a few weeks. It involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is achieved. It is not unusual to need to adjust two or three medicines before finding the one that is best for your child's adhd treatment strategies symptoms. It is essential that parents take part in the titration and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so they can inform doctors whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be given as a private prescription which you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. However, in some circumstances, it might be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again with an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss any treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose, as well as any adverse effects you might be experiencing. The cost of these titration appointments is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any medication costs.

This can be done within the first few days of your diagnosis if are keen to begin treatment right away or within two weeks if prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options that are available to you.

We suggest that if are unsure about your preferences, talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment. Certain providers have different policies regarding whether they require an GP letter. We also advise that you check whether your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement', which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be sent back to them to get the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who want an individual diagnosis of ADHD, medication is an important aspect of their journey. It can be difficult to get an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that provides a private assessment service and titration. This can cut down on wait time significantly and is more convenient if you are working and have a full schedule.

After you've been identified as a candidate for this treatment the doctor you choose will examine you and decide whether or not you're required to be adjusted on your medication. You'll have to fill out forms that differ by provider, but the most common ones are self-reporting questionnaires and medical histories dating to childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor identify any conditions that could indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will be a combination stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. They will be carefully tested and monitored to find the most suitable combination for you, taking into consideration any existing conditions you have. The titration process can be long and could require some additional appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.

Depending on the type of medication you are taking, follow up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly.
