What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Rep kits are an excellent method of fixing your equipment until you can get to the trailhead to have it repaired professionally. The key is knowing what you can do with it when you require it.

Dentures that are home-repaired over a long period of time can lead to the loss of bone, irritation and tumors.

Tools

It is important to have the right tools on your side when you're out in the field. This kit was designed to meet that need and includes all the hand tools required to repair equipment in the field. The tools are made of metal with the least amount of plastic so that they can withstand use. The kit includes the pouch made of canvas that is zippered to hold coalcracker tools, a twist awl, reamer and cutting shears and gimlets (5MM). It also comes with a bottle of coalcracker oil with illustrated instructions and a wooden spool an reamer, and a twist Awl.

Repair Patches

If you've got a gap or two in your gears, consider adding some adhesive patches to your rep kit. These heavy-duty patches feature high-performance adhesives that are applied to a tough polyurethane backing that allows the tear to heal under pressure. The patches are available in transparent or colored versions. They are durable against punctures as well as sun, moisture as well as extreme temperatures and saltwater.

If your kit doesn't contain any of the above items, think about adding a bag of waterproof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. The water-tight adhesive bonds to metals and fabrics to provide an indestructible fix. It's perfect for repairing drysuits and is able to be applied while out in the field. Give the sealant at least 12 hours to cure before using your repaired equipment.

The essential field fabric kit for packs, tents and rainwear made of silicone impregnated nylon. Includes one Clean Tape patch and a sil-nylon repair swatch and a 1/4 ounce tube of Goretex Silfix repair adhesive & sealant and brush. Apply patch to a clean, smooth surface. There should be a minimum of 1/2 inch overlap. Remove release paper and Rep kit rub adhesive side down with moderate finger pressure.

Surface prep is important for successful repairs; oils on shoes or kit boots sunblock, solvents such as acetone can impact adhesion. Use Seam Grip with Cotol 240 Cure Accelerator for best results.

Adhesive patches

If you're out on the trail and do not have the time to make the full repair of your vulcaniser the patches that are self-adhesive can get you back on the saddle with no hassle. Apply the self-adhesive patch then roll it on.

Clean the punctured area thoroughly Then, use the tube-scuffer or sandpaper to roughen the surface which assists in making glue stick. Spread a thin layer of glue on the patch that covers an area at least as large as the patch itself. Allow the glue to become tacky then apply the patch with force and hold it in place.
