There is a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and a growing global demand.

Our service is private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include medical history and an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, by video link or over the phone). Your physician will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to begin medication, we can help you to titrate your dose to ensure the best balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take a few weeks and it involves gradually altering your child’s medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It's not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medicines before you can find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential that parents participate in the titration and be aware of their child's behavior so that they can let the doctors know whether the medication is helping or causing adverse reactions.

If you decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with an individual prescription that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You will need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you will be able to make follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist, as appropriate. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call however in some instances it may be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost).

We will then discuss the options for treatment and then decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication adjustment. This will include an assessment of your medication dose and a discussion around any negative side effects you may be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history and the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a genetic condition, so it's important to assess your family background to determine if you're at risk of developing this disorder.

It is crucial that you are honest and truthful to the doctor during this evaluation, as the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. We also advise to confirm that your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement', which means that once you are discharged from the clinic, you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication
